One of synthetic antibiotic penicillin. Excellent permeability into the cell surface of Gram-negative bacteria and exhibits broad antimicrobial spectra covering not only Gram-positive bacteria but also many Gram-negative bacteria. Inhibits competitively peptidyl transferase necessary for synthesis of bacterial cell walls eventually leading to bacteriolysis. This product is used when ampicillin-resistant gene is used as a selective marker.
